WINNING SPORTS SOLUTIONS

In 2010, Verde successfully carried out the innovative replacement and material recycling of an existing water-based hockey pitch at the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex. Uniquely, all waste material arising from this project was recycled for reuse. This environmentally robust approach and hardworking practical solution paved the way for an ongoing partnership between Verde and UoB, spanning 7 years to date. 

In 2015, Verde produced a detailed master plan, (containing a series of high-level drawings, specs and full budget options) to improve and increase the entire sports provision at UoB for future generations. 

 

The plans were adopted by UoB’s specialist design team and through a collaborative process working with main contractor Capita and Kendall King Scott architects, the high-level designs were realised and submitted for planning. Verde’s services were retained in a consultative role on the scheme due to the significant level of conceptual involvement in scoping and developing the initial project framework. This included taking the lead role in the geotechnical investigations, scoping the drainage designs (which included a SuDS scheme) and a detailed floodlighting design, all of which fed into the central planning application.  

Verde played a pivotal role in supporting the entire design team through the planning process to help push the final design scheme over the line. On receipt of planning consent, Verde was invited to tender alongside numerous large-scale main contractors and specialist sports contractors. 

Verde’s bid stood out and was successful. Notably, we were awarded the project due to the detailed nature of our submission, coupled with evidence of our intrinsic design role and commitment to the team throughout the entire project. 

Verde’s contract, to design and build the sports facility was successfully delivered to deadline – and resulted in one pitch being delivered earlier than planned, thus exceeding client expectations.
